Actor Adam Driver will portray Dr. Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister, in the upcoming Marvel Studios film. The character is a superintelligent shape-shifting telepath who serves as the primary antagonist in the reboot.

Driver discussed his decision during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He noted that he was a long-time fan of the X-Men franchise. While he appreciated other Marvel properties, this specific project felt like the right time to commit. He pointed to director Jake Schreier's vision and the involvement of Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige as key factors. Driver described the script as really cool.

Feige has spoken about his repeated attempts to cast Driver in other roles. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Feige described the process as a long-lived tradition. Whenever a new project approached, he would Zoom with Driver to discuss a part. Driver would then politely decline. Feige called the actor cordial and upfront about his feelings during these conversations.

Driver explained his selectivity regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He acknowledged that these films reach a massive audience. If a performance is not strong, many people will see it. He stated that he did not want to mess up the role. This careful approach led him to turn down many previous offers before accepting this one.

The film is currently in production. The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Kit Connor as Cyclops. Christopher Abbott plays Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd plays Storm, and Asa Germann plays Angel. Driver will lead the antagonistic side against this group of heroes.

The movie marks a shift in Driver's relationship with the studio. After years of passing on various projects, he has finally joined the franchise. The casting news confirms his role as the central villain in this new chapter for the X-Men.
