Rosamund Pike will star in and produce Feed, a body horror film currently being pitched to buyers.
The project is a development from director Leslye Headland, known for The Acolyte and Russian Doll. The script was written by Daniella Isaacs, who cited Hanna Bergholm’s 2022 Finnish film Hatching as the primary inspiration. Pike is attached to produce the film through her Primitive Streak banner. She will work alongside Shelley Browning of Magnolia Entertainment, Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, and executives from ZQ Entertainment and Agile Films. ZQ Entertainment financed the script development.
The story follows Erin, a mother desperate to turn her tween gymnast daughter into a star influencer. She discovers an obscure collagen supplement that seems to aid her daughter’s career. As fame grows, the daughter undergoes a monstrous physical transformation. Pike described the film as a play on social media obsession and the pressures of modern motherhood. She called the project contemporary and confronting. Pike said she found perfect collaborators in Isaacs and Headland, noting that both understand the dangers of being a girl in a body.
The film is positioned to compete with Coralie Fargeat’s 2024 hit The Substance, which earned over $77 million worldwide. The Veterans is managing international sales and will present the project at the American Film Market next week. CAA Media Finance is handling U.S. rights. The market serves as a venue for studios to acquire content for distribution.
Pike’s involvement adds star power to a high-concept genre piece. The production team includes several established figures in the entertainment industry. The financing structure is in place, and the script is completed. The next step is securing distribution deals at the upcoming market.
