Seven applications for land use changes and development plans are scheduled for a public hearing on December 2, 2026. This session marks the first time the newly merged body will convene to review specific site requests.
The Consolidated Zoning Board replaced the separate East and West Consolidated Zoning Boards on May 1, 2026. The merger combines the two panels into a single entity that handles all zoning, land use, and development matters for the county.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Board Hearing Room on the third floor of the County Administration Building at 111 S. Cherry St. in Olathe. The board does not meet if no agenda items are submitted.
Prior to the merger, the county operated two distinct panels for different geographic areas. The new structure consolidates these functions under one group. The board makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding site plans for new businesses, rezoning requests, special use permits, and land subdivisions.
The most recent completed hearing took place on November 4, 2026. Applications for that session were due by September 11, 2026. The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote on the outcomes of that November hearing on December 3, 2026.
The upcoming December 2 hearing will consider applications submitted by the October 9, 2026 deadline. The Board of Commissioners is set to review the board's recommendations from this December session at a meeting on January 7, 2027.
Residents and developers can attend the December 2 hearing in person or via Zoom. The county provides a webinar link and ID for remote participation. Individuals requiring sign language interpreters or other accommodations must contact the office at 913-715-2200 or planner@jocogov.org at least two business days before the meeting.
Records from past meetings, including agendas, staff reports, and minutes, are available from planning staff. The county encourages applicants to check for meeting cancellations or updates before attending.
