Portland braces for frosty start before dry Halloween weekend
The city recorded over two inches of rain in October, but forecasters predict clear skies and mild temperatures for trick-or-treaters on Friday night.

Portland residents will face a Frost Advisory until 9 a.m. Saturday after a wet early October pushed total rainfall past two inches. The milestone exceeded local expectations by a week, marking a deviation from the typically drier pattern observed in the region during this time of year.
The weather pattern shifted sharply this morning, bringing much heavier precipitation than initial models suggested. By evening, skies cleared, allowing temperatures to fall into the 30s. This cooling trend triggered the current advisory, which remains active through the morning hours of October 31.
Friday evening presents favorable conditions for outdoor activities. Forecasters indicate mostly sunny skies with a gradual increase in cloud cover from the south. The probability of precipitation remains below 10 percent, eliminating the risk of rain during peak trick-or-treating hours. Temperatures will range between 45 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Daylight Saving Time concludes at midnight Friday, shifting sunset times in Portland to the 4 p.m. hour. This change provides an additional hour of daylight on Friday evening or an extra hour of sleep on Sunday. Sunday is expected to be sunny and mild, with highs reaching the mid-50s.
A narrow high pressure ridge is set to build over the region for the first week of November. Forecasters project highs in the upper 50s and low 60s with a mix of sun and clouds. The system is expected to keep the area dry through at least Wednesday. A cutoff low pressure system introduces uncertainty for the latter half of the week, with outcomes depending on its interaction with the jet stream.
