A juvenile rider was in critical condition on Thursday after a collision between a pickup truck and two scooters in Bordentown Township.
Dispatchers reported the accident shortly after 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Route 130 and Route 662. The pickup truck sustained damage to its front passenger side. Medics transported the injured juvenile to Cooper Hospital via air ambulance. A second rider, an adult, also suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital, though details regarding that person's condition were not immediately available. Authorities closed the roadway for several hours while investigators examined the scene from an aerial perspective using SKYFOX.
Residents living near the crash site have expressed concern about traffic patterns in the area for some time. Tara Mikell, who resides nearby, noted that drivers frequently fail to stop at the designated crosswalk. "They are literally stopping on the crosswalk," Mikell said. Barbara Stephens, another neighbor, described the area as busy with children riding scooters and bicycles. "Sometimes it’s a little unsafe for them," Stephens said.
Abby Beckner witnessed the crash from her apartment window. She heard screaming and saw pedestrians rushing to the scene. Beckner stated that while she often sees children riding in the area, this was the first scooter crash she had observed. "Look for kids and everybody because the kids like playing on the hill here," Beckner said.
Investigators have not yet released the names or current medical statuses of the injured parties. It is unclear whether charges will be filed or when the investigation will conclude.
