Flávio Bolsonaro’s passports are now invalid. Federal police in Brazil cancelled the documents on Tuesday after the senator missed a 24-hour deadline to hand them over.

The Supreme Court issued the order on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering. Bolsonaro denies the charges and stated he intended to remain in Brazil to lead the opposition against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Federal officers are currently checking border crossings to see if the senator traveled to neighboring Argentina. A police source told BBC News Brasil that authorities are looking for him at specific points of entry. Argentine officials confirmed there is no record of Bolsonaro entering their country through any border crossing.

The passport cancellation adds pressure to a senator already facing multiple legal probes. Police were also ordered on Tuesday to investigate his electoral campaign for alleged foreign funding. This comes alongside a separate corruption investigation regarding the financing of a film about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest after being convicted of plotting a coup.

Bolsonaro lost the presidential run-off on Sunday. He finished with 48.21% of the vote compared to Lula’s 51.79%. The defeat marked a rare instance of an incumbent overturning a first-round loss to win the election.

The 45-year-old senator has not conceded the election. He is calling for the result to be annulled, arguing that a two-hour extension of polling hours on election day disadvantaged him. Bolsonaro described the extension as a dirty trick, even though his party and Lula’s party both requested the change. The Liberal Party, which Bolsonaro represented, has accepted the final count but said the voting extension merits investigation.
