Brandon Derelle Boone will spend at least two and a half years in state prison for a fight over a parking spot.

The 38-year-old Buncombe County man entered a guilty plea to two felony counts. He admitted to assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury and possessing a firearm while a felon.

A judge set his sentence at 30 to 48 months in prison. Boone had previously been convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2011. That prior record made him a felon, and North Carolina law bans felons from owning guns.

The incident occurred on March 28, 2026. Boone and another adult man argued over a parking space, according to the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office.

During the dispute, Boone hit the other man in the face with a handgun. The blow caused a facial laceration and a fractured orbital bone. Boone also fired the gun into the air, officials said.

Asheville Police Department officers were on routine patrol nearby. They arrived at the scene shortly after the altercation. Police arrested Boone and his wife on the spot.
