Solano County prosecutors filed charges against a 17-year-old accused of killing a pregnant woman and six other people inside a Spirit Halloween store in California. The district attorney's office announced the legal action on Nov. 5, seeking to have the teen tried as an adult.
The suspect faces two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The charging document also includes several weapons enhancements. The shooting occurred on Oct. 30, ending the life of 31-year-old Constance Hages, a mother of four, and her unborn child.
Six other victims sustained injuries during the attack. As of Monday, four individuals remained hospitalized. A 19-year-old man is listed in critical condition. Three others, ages 16, 23, and 32, are in stable condition. Two additional victims, ages 19 and 43, were treated and released from the hospital.
Hages' family described the impact of the loss on their GoFundMe page, which was organized to cover funeral expenses and support for her four children. The family stated that the loss has left them grieving and struggling to process the pain. They described the family as trying to cope with a situation that words can barely hold.
The suspect made an initial appearance in juvenile court on Wednesday morning. He remains held without bail pending further proceedings. The Solano County District Attorney's Office confirmed the request for an adult trial in a press release.
