Resident in Birmingham and surrounding areas will feel a sharp drop in temperature over the next few days. After a dry and mild Thursday, the region prepares for a shift toward cooler air that will persist into the following week.

Thursday afternoons will reach the mid-70s Fahrenheit, but nighttime lows will fall to the upper 40s and lower 50s. Friday will follow a similar pattern with highs in the lower to mid-70s. The significant change arrives on Saturday, when afternoon temperatures drop to the lower and middle 60s. In some northern communities, highs may struggle to exceed the upper 50s.

The cold intensifies overnight. Weather forecasters identify Saturday night through Sunday morning as the first real opportunity for frost. Morning temperatures are expected to range from the upper 30s and lower 40s in the south to the lower 30s in colder northern areas. Sunday itself will remain dry with sunshine, and afternoon highs will generally stay in the 60s.

The chill is not expected to break immediately. Morning temperatures will remain low through the first half of next week, while afternoon temperatures slowly moderate. Forecasters indicate that several more opportunities for frost are possible during this period.

This sustained cold weather poses a risk for outdoor vegetation. Individuals with sensitive plants left outdoors need to monitor overnight temperatures closely. The initial dry weather of Thursday and Friday provides a brief respite before the colder trend takes hold for the weekend and early next week.
