Callum Turner has become the clear favorite to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, with his betting odds dropping from 3/1 to 8/13. This shift occurred after rumors surfaced that four actors were called in for auditions. The other named candidates are Jack Lowden, Josh O’Connor, and one unidentified individual.

Jack Lowden, the husband of Saoirse Ronan, had previously held the title of strong favorite. His odds were shortened following a tip from Richard Osman. However, recent speculation from sources in underground car parks has pointed toward Turner instead. Turner married English singer Dua Lipa in May of this year.

Turner began his career as a model before acting in John Boorman’s Queen and Country in 2014. He appeared in two films last year: the thriller Rose of Nevada and the romantic comedy Eternity. He also recently resigned as the director of his own production company, which observers have interpreted as a sign that his acting priorities are changing.

Barbara Broccoli, who has managed the Bond franchise for years, stated two years ago that the next Bond will be a man in his 30s. She noted that the actor’s race is not predetermined. In February 2025, the rights to the franchise were transferred to Amazon MGM Studios. The Sun newspaper claimed on Thursday that a source overheard a castmate of Josh O’Connor say in a Soho pub that O’Connor had secured the role. O’Connor is best known for playing Prince Charles in The Crown.

Amy Pascal, a producer on the upcoming film directed by Denis Villeneuve, said the news will be out by the end of the year. The 26th James Bond film is expected to be a complete reboot, similar to Casino Royale in 2006. This approach means the character will start on an independent timeline, as Bond died at the end of No Time to Die. Rumors suggest that some filming may take place in Ireland.

The Irish Times reported that it endorses Idris Elba as a candidate for the role of M. Elba is currently 54. The publication noted that the preference for Elba in the lead role had passed about 15 years ago.
