Paddington: The Musical will remain on the West End until at least June 25, 2028. Producers confirmed the extension today, citing high ticket demand as the primary driver for keeping the doors open for another two years.
The show recently matched the record for the most awards won by a single musical. It took home seven Olivier Awards earlier this year. Those wins included best new musical, best director for Luke Sheppard, best actor, best supporting actor, and best supporting actress.
Sonia Friedman Productions, StudioCanal, and Eliza Lumley Productions manage the show on behalf of Universal Music U.K. Tom Fletcher of McFly wrote the music and lyrics. Jessica Swale wrote the book. The story adapts Michael Bond's original novel and the subsequent film franchise.
The production is preparing for its next phases. A Broadway debut is scheduled for March 2027 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. An international tour will begin in Sydney at the Capitol Theatre in September 2027.
The London cast has seen several changes. Sonny Monaghan handles the bear's voice and remote puppetry. Abbie Purvis and Hassan Taj share the on-stage performance of Paddington. Samantha Bingley joins as Lady Sloane, while Tarinn Callender and Teddy Kempner return as Grant and Mr. Gruber, respectively. Other new cast members include Alex Crandon, Linzi Hateley, Cassidy Janson, Sandra Marvin, Haydn Oakley, Marc Pickering, and Charlotte Wakefield.
The plot centers on a lost bear from Peru who arrives in London. He meets the Brown family and moves into Windsor Gardens. A villain targets Paddington, forcing the Browns into a rescue mission. The synopsis notes that even happy families have cracks beneath the surface.
