Pfizer will invest $650 million to build a new manufacturing technology center in Groton. The project aims to consolidate employees currently working across various facilities on the company's campus into a single, purpose-built location.

The new facility will span approximately 220,000 square feet. It is designed to produce ingredients and drug products that support clinical trials for the pharmaceutical company.

AdvanceCT is managing the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the space expected to become operational in 2031. The timeline covers a five-year construction and setup period.

Raja Mangipudy, the Groton site head, said the center will build on Pfizer's history of scientific innovation in the area. He stated that the new building will improve the company's ability to support clinical research and develop new medicines for patients globally.

Pfizer has operated medical research laboratory facilities in Groton since 1959. The campus covers more than 175 acres and contains over 2 million square feet of office and laboratory space. The company describes the site as a major hub for scientific discovery and the global supply of materials used in clinical research.

The City of Groton is partnering with Pfizer through the project's planning, construction, and startup phases. Local officials noted that the investment strengthens the community's role in pharmaceutical research and development.
