Thai-Swedish musician Sirintip Hanpradit has released a new six-track extended play titled White Lilies. The collection runs for less than 25 minutes and combines elements of jazz, pop, classical, and electronic music.
The new work differs in scope from her previous albums. Her 2018 record Tribus focused on the number three and her dual heritage in New York City. The 2022 album Carbon centered on climate change and environmental themes.
White Lilies shifts toward a more personal subject matter. Hanpradit cites the death of her Swedish father, who raised her in Thailand, as the primary inspiration for the project. The track Lotus uses a flower rising from mud as a metaphor for human growth beyond nature and nurture.
The EP features specific musical collaborations. Nolan Byrd handles drums, adding complexity to the trip-hop rhythms on the opening track Motherland. Ben Wendel contributes tenor saxophone passages to that same song. Kengchakaj, a frequent collaborator, provides piano for the track Amygdala, which features whispery vocal phrasing.
The title track incorporates a more strident singing style. The final song, Where Do Souls Go?, uses synthesized chorales to evoke a sense of wonder and loss. Hanpradit serves as the composer, singer, programmer, and producer for the entire release.
The artist is also preparing a larger interdisciplinary performance called Mycelium. That project will feature a nine-piece ensemble and draw inspiration from plankton and fungi.
