Three Latin American restaurants secured spots on Eater Boston's list of the 38 best dining establishments in the city and its surroundings.
The guide includes Taquería Jalisco in East Boston, La Royal in Cambridge, and Gustazo, which operates in Waltham and Cambridge. Eater refreshes the directory each season to reflect current standards. The list categorizes venues by cuisine, price point, and neighborhood. Restaurants must have been open for at least six months to qualify.
Taquería Jalisco has operated for nearly 25 years at 291 Bennington Street in Day Square. The guide notes that the spot consistently draws neighbors for pozole, carnitas tacos, and spicy pork tamales. It carries a single dollar sign rating, indicating the lowest price range, and serves lunch and dinner. The establishment posted on Instagram this week to thank its staff and customers for sharing Mexican traditions. In the summer of 2025, the brand opened a second location at 980 Saratoga Street in Orient Heights. That new site holds a full liquor license and offers an expanded menu that includes breakfast.
La Royal is located at 221 Concord Avenue in Cambridge. It is run by the same team behind Celeste, a highly regarded Peruvian restaurant led by JuanMa Calderón and Maria Rondeau. Eater assesses La Royal as equal to or better than the original Celeste location. Gustazo, a Cuban restaurant, entered the list during the summer 2026 update. It maintains locations in Waltham and Cambridge.
The autumn update featured only one change in roster composition. Sugidama in Somerville was removed from the list. Thaiger Den, a Thai restaurant in Malden, replaced it. Eater had previously recognized Taquería Jalisco and Angela's Cafe in a separate guide for the best Mexican restaurants in Boston.
The guide aims to cover diverse price points and culinary styles across the region. It excludes venues that have not been open long enough to establish a track record. The current list reflects the latest assessment of dining options in the area.
