UConn extends Hurley's contract through 2032 at $8 million a year
The deal keeps the two-time national championship coach at UConn through the 2031-32 season, with no change to his current pay.

UConn coach Dan Hurley signed a two-year extension Friday that runs through the 2031-32 season and leaves his annual salary at about $8 million, the school said. The agreement keeps the Huskies' bench stable for six more seasons, the same span athletic director David Benedict referenced when he said the school was keeping Hurley "home at UConn for the next six years."
Hurley's current pay already placed him second among college basketball coaches nationally, behind Bill Self of Kansas, according to a USA Today database covering public schools. That standing came from a deal signed in 2024, after Hurley's teams won consecutive national championships and after he declined an offer to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.
The new contract does not raise the salary figure. It extends the term. Benedict said keeping the same staff in place matters as college sports change. "In this chaotic era of college sports, it has never been more important to maintain continuity as we strive to compete at the highest level in everything we do," he said in a statement.
Hurley's record at UConn stands at 199-75 across eight seasons. He is one of three coaches to win back-to-back titles since the John Wooden era at UCLA. In March he took UConn to the national title game, which made him the youngest active head coach with three Final Four appearances and the only coach since 2000 to reach three title games in a four-year window.
Hurley said the post carries obligations beyond wins. "We understand our responsibility to the people of Connecticut and to the incredible supporters of UConn Basketball and will continue to bring a relentless, obsessive approach to winning and championship-level success," he said in a statement.
The fourth-ranked Huskies have three exhibition wins, over Syracuse, Michigan State and Purdue. Their first regular-season game is Monday against Gardner-Webb.
