The Windsor Court, a New Orleans hotel operating for more than 40 years, will be 100% locally owned for the first time in its history. Saints officials made the announcement on Friday, October 30, confirming that Gayle Benson has acquired the property.
The hotel opened in 1984 ahead of the World’s Fair. Since then, it has established a standard for luxury hospitality in the city. Benson’s acquisition changes the ownership structure, shifting control from previous owners to a fully local entity.
Benson leads the purchase, but the transaction involves a partnership. The Berger Company, led by Darryl and Ryan Berger, will retain a minority interest in the property. They will also remain involved in hotel operations. Benson’s team described the investment as a reflection of confidence in New Orleans as a premier destination.
Benson stated that the hotel is an iconic part of the city’s history. She described the acquisition as a privilege and said her vision is to build on the hotel’s existing excellence. She expressed gratitude to Darryl and the Berger family for facilitating the process. She noted that the Berghers have cared for the hotel with pride.
Ralph Mahana, the General Manager of The Windsor Court, said local ownership provides a strong foundation for the hotel’s next phase. He emphasized that the upcoming renovation focuses on maintaining a world-class experience for guests. Mahana said the team is committed to enhancing the service that has drawn travelers from around the world.
Benson said the acquisition is both a business investment and a contribution to the city’s global reputation. She stated that hotels like The Windsor Court introduce the world to the best aspects of New Orleans. She wants guests to leave with a sense of the city’s uniqueness and for employees to feel proud of the future they are building.
