The Naismith Trophy Watch List for women's college basketball received its latest update on Thursday, adding a familiar face from the Big Ten.
Britt Prince, a 5-foot-11 junior guard at the University of Nebraska, was named to the Top 50 list for the 2026-27 season. She is the sixth Husker player to earn a spot on this specific award tracker.
Prince is the first five-star recruit in the history of Nebraska women's basketball. Ratings for female players began two decades ago, and no Husker had achieved that designation before her arrival.
Her statistical production has been consistent since her freshman year. As a true freshman, she averaged 13.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors and was named the university's Female Freshman Athlete of the Year.
During her sophomore campaign, Prince led the team in scoring with 17.9 points per game. She also led the squad in assists with 4.4 per game and in steals with 1.5 per game. She recorded two games with 30 or more points during the 2025-26 season, beating Oral Roberts on November 19, 2025, and Virginia on November 25, 2025.
Prince achieved a rare shooting efficiency mark last season. She was one of only two players in the nation to record a 50-40-90 split. Her percentages stood at 53.5% from the field, 45.7% from three-point range, and 91.2% from the free-throw line. She set a school record by making 56 consecutive free throws, a streak that included her first 54 attempts in Big Ten competition.
In the postseason, Prince helped Nebraska secure its third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. She averaged 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two blocks in two games. Her 27-point performance against No. 21 Baylor stands as the second-highest scoring total by a Husker in tournament history.
Prince maintained her form during early 2026 exhibition play. In a closed scrimmage against Kansas State, she scored 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out five assists. In a televised exhibition against Wayne State, she recorded 15 points, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 26 minutes.
Nebraska opens its regular season on Monday, November 2, 2026. The Huskers will face San Jose State at Pinnacle Bank Arena at noon central time. The game follows the annual Sizemore Sportsmanship Pep Rally and will air on Nebraska Public Media and BTN+.
No Nebraska player has ever won the Naismith Trophy. Jordan Hooper made the Mid-Season Team three times, while Kelsey Griffin was a national finalist in 2010. The award, named for Dr. James Naismith, honors the best male and female college player. The winner is determined during Final Four weekend, with 75% of the vote coming from coaches and journalists and 25% from fans.
