Birmingham hosts a major automotive gathering this weekend as NASCAR combines a car show with a community festival at City Walk. The event marks the fourth year of this specific partnership with the Magic City Classic.
NASCAR recently competed at Talladega Superspeedway, which is located nearby. That race weekend served as the immediate precursor to this local engagement. The organization views the Birmingham market as a key area for building relationships with fans and local institutions.
The gathering is scheduled for Friday, October 30, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free for the public. Attendees can expect to see roughly 150 vehicles on display. This collection includes cars from celebrities and influencers alongside entries from outside the state.
Beyond the static displays, the venue will feature interactive elements. Racing simulators are set up for visitors to try. A dedicated kids zone provides activities for younger attendees. Food trucks and local vendors, including Alicia’s Coffee, will serve the crowd throughout the afternoon.
Brandon Thompson, NASCAR’s Vice President of Growth, Engagement, and Inclusion, discussed the purpose of the event. He noted that the group aims to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities, specifically Alabama A&M and Alabama State, which participate in the classic.
Thompson cited last year’s attendance figures to illustrate the event's scale. He said approximately 1,500 people attended the previous year’s edition. He described the gathering as a way to bring families together and showcase the sport to the community.
The event concludes at 6 p.m. on Friday. The free admission model allows for broad access to the show cars and simulators. The presence of the block party coincides with the larger Magic City Classic weekend celebrations in the city.
