The Los Angeles Rams anticipate that outside linebacker Myles Garrett will return to the active roster for their game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Head coach Sean McVay stated on Friday that Garrett is expected to play unless complications arise with his knee injury. The team also plans to activate tight end Terrance Ferguson, who has been managing an ankle injury.

Garrett underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-September and has been on injured reserve since that procedure. He played in the Rams' season opener but indicated afterward that he was not fully healthy. He missed much of training camp while dealing with knee irritation. McVay noted that Garrett has practiced well this week and feels comfortable with the game plan. The coach said Garrett made a strong impact in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

If Garrett plays, it will be his first appearance alongside defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Donald did not play in Week 1 while recovering from retirement. The Rams acquired Garrett during the offseason by trading two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse and three draft picks, including a first-round selection in 2027, to the Cleveland Browns. Garrett won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2025 after setting a single-season record with 23 sacks for the Browns.

Ferguson has missed the last five games after spraining his ankle in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. He has returned to practice this week and is expected to be activated along with Garrett. The team is still determining how much playing time Garrett will receive, but McVay praised his progress and comfort level with the defensive scheme.

Cornerback Trent McDuffie, another key addition during the offseason, is a questionable starter for Sunday. McVay said McDuffie would not practice again on Friday after injuring his back in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Rams will make final roster decisions before the game against the Commanders.
