The Kansas City Current will open the National Women's Soccer League playoffs on Saturday by hosting the fifth-seeded Angel City FC at CPKC Stadium. The Current entered the postseason as the fourth seed after finishing the 2026 regular season with a five-game winning streak.

Head coach Chris Armas said the team is ready for the challenge, describing the matchup as a primary reason for playing the sport. He noted that the squad responded positively to early-season difficulties, allowing them to reach the playoffs at the right time. Midfielder Rocky Rodriguez agreed, stating the group is peaking at the correct moment after overcoming various hurdles.

The Current have not advanced past the quarterfinals since 2024. In the 2025 playoffs, the team was eliminated by eighth-seeded Gotham FC at CPKC Stadium. Armas said the current roster has not focused on that previous loss, citing a visible hunger among the players. He added that key players who were injured during last year's postseason are expected to be excited to compete again.

Angel City FC arrives in Kansas City on a strong run, having not lost a match since August. Despite finishing the regular season just below the Current in the rankings, Armas expects this to be the toughest battle the team has faced. He described the visitors as a complete team that is organized defensively and difficult to play through.

The quarterfinal match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The broadcast will air on KCTV5. The Current could host a second playoff game if they win this match and Gotham FC loses its quarterfinal on Sunday.
