Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley stated that his squad has developed faster than he initially projected for the current campaign. The Glovers sit in fourth place in the National League standings after fifteen matches. They have recorded fifty goals across all competitions this season.
Rowley led the team to a 2-1 victory over Hornchurch on Wednesday. This result followed a 2-1 loss to Altrincham earlier in the week. The win improved the team's recent form ahead of their next fixture.
The manager acknowledged that the progression speed exceeded his internal expectations. He noted that the group remains young and includes players who recently arrived from lower divisions. He said he expects the team to experience occasional setbacks during the process.
“It’s probably quicker than I thought, but equally I think we are going to see a couple of steps back here and there,” Rowley said. He emphasized the need to remain level-headed when performance drops. The team continues to focus on training and improvement.
Rowley credited the rapid development to strong relationships forming within the dressing room. Players who did not know each other before the season have bonded quickly. He observed that confidence is high and results have supported that growth.
“Results have been good, players are playing well and they are full of confidence and there are some really good relationships in the camp as well,” he added. The manager highlighted the group's ability to recover from poor performances through consistent effort.
One defensive player will miss the upcoming match due to injury. Jordan Norville-Williams suffered a hamstring issue during the Hornchurch game. He is scheduled to undergo further medical testing. Rowley reported that the initial assessment suggests the injury is not severe.
“The initial feeling from the physio is that it is not too serious. Best case scenario is probably ten days to two weeks, worst case is maybe three to four weeks,” the manager said. Norville-Williams joins Joy Mukena and Joe Haigh on the injured list.
New loan signing Seb Naylor has stepped in to provide cover at left-back. Naylor joined from Bristol City on a deal that lasts until January. He made a positive impression during his debut. Rowley praised Naylor's understanding of possession-based football and his ability to integrate into the squad.
Yeovil travel to West Yorkshire for a match against FC Halifax Town on Saturday. Halifax currently occupies the tenth position in the league. They lost their previous match to Barrow with a score of 3-2. The Glovers have won three of their last five league games. Halifax has recorded two wins, two draws, and one loss in the same span.
Rowley expects the tactical challenge to differ from the Hornchurch match. He stated that Halifax has proven its quality in the division over the last two years. The manager believes his team must perform at its peak to secure a positive result in West Yorkshire.
“They are a top team and they have proved that in the last couple of years in this division,” Rowley said. He noted that the stylistic demands of the Halifax match will be distinct. The Glovers must execute their best version of their game plan to succeed away from home.
